The 2013 5 Star Generals Silver Dollar was issued as part of an ambitious commemorative coin program authorized to recognize the 5-Star Generals of the United States Army as well as celebrate the 132nd anniversary of the founding of the United States Army Command and General Staff College where each of the generals either taught or attended. The United States Mint produced a proof version of the silver dollar at the San Francisco Mint bearing the “S” mint mark and an uncirculated version at the West Point Mint bearing the “W” mint mark. A maximum mintage of 500,000 across both versions was established under the authorizing legislation. Sales for the coin officially opened on March 21, 2013, when the proof and uncirculated versions were offered for sale individually. The proof silver dollar was initially priced at $54.95, and later priced at $59.95 after the conclusion of an introductory period. The uncirculated silver dollar was initially priced at $50.95, and later $55.95 after the introductory period. Pricing for the offering included a $10 surcharge distributable to the CGSC Foundation to help finance its activities in support of the college. Later in the year, the 2013 5-Star Generals Profile Collection was offered, which included the uncirculated silver dollar along with the uncirculated half dollar and a bronze replica medal featuring Douglas MacArthur. Final sales for the 2013 5-Star Generals Silver Dollar reached 34,638 for the uncirculated version and 69,283 for the proof version. 2013-W Uncirculated 5 Star Generals Silver Dollar Pre-Issue Price: $50.95 Regular Price: $55.95 Final Mintage: 34,638 2013-S Proof 5 Star Generals Silver Dollar Pre-Issue Price: $54.95 Regular Price: $59.95 Final Mintage: 69,283 Proof |
